Abstract

[en] Menagroup, a Belgian SME, is active in the import of goods from various locations, such as Italy, France or United States, and sales to retailers in Belgium, France and Luxembourg. This report discusses two projects the company is currently investigating.

The first project concerns the analysis of the online sales for the products of the American eco-brand Preserve. Various options are discussed, eventually leading to a minimum volume of orders for reaching break even under hypotheses of a predetermined basket price. The analysis revealed that outsourcing the logistic part, such as the orders preparation, would not be justified below a certain volume of orders. In-house management of these operations is therefore recommended, at least during an evaluation phase.

The second project discusses the implementation of a recycling program such as the one that has been launched by Preserve in the United States a few years ago. This project is analyzed from a strategic point of view. The analysis revealed that, although this project is interesting, it might not be optimal for Menagroup to set it up. However, under the hypothesis of a European production, the program could be partially implemented on a marketing-oriented basis through postal returns of used products.

In addition to these projects, the first part of the report is dedicated to the analysis of the logistical part of the company for Preserve products. This part encompasses the analysis of goods flow and subsequent charges related to goods import. The price at which goods are valued are discussed, as well as recommended adjustments for a better evaluation of these prices.
